OneSight in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
In May 2017 I helped serve the people of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania through a OneSight mission to the city in partnership with International Medical And Technological University (IMTU).
Tanzania's Need
In Tanzania there are just 287 registered optometrists for a population of over 56 million. By contrast The United States has more than 35,00 for a population of over 380 million! Also, 28% of the people live below the poverty line. (The U.S. rate is about 14%.) Access to quality eye care is limited for many Tanzanians, so we had the privilege to provide them with not only quality eye care but also quality eye wear, too!
OneSight
By employing a strategy of both immediate and long-term solutions, OneSight can provide ongoing, top-quality vision care to adults and children around the world. Together with volunteers and partners, they provide same-day access to vision care and establish permanent clinics staffed by local, capable partners to serve each community’s distinct needs. Started in 1988 under the name Gift of Sight, OneSight is dedicated to eradicating the world's vision problem in our lifetime.
